Janne Dam: "The bright future we have in mind, we’re building it together."

Janne Dam, born and raised in Brabant, has made a conscious choice to build a future in Friesland. “I believe in a place where everyone can develop and is given equal opportunities. That is what I want to work towards in Friesland,” she says. Janne now works at Innovatiepact Fryslân, where she is wholeheartedly committed to an inclusive and sustainable future. She has found her place in Friesland and actively contributes to strengthening the region by encouraging innovation and collaboration.

At home in the North

Growing up in the heart of Brabant yet consciously choosing to live in the North – that is what Janne Dam has done. With her roots firmly planted in Brabant’s warm and friendly atmosphere, she has found her place in the down-to-earth nature of Friesland. She describes herself as a Frisian at heart and is committed to contributing to a better, greener and more inclusive Friesland. Janne moved from Tilburg to Leeuwarden to study Public Administration & Government Management at the Thorbecke Academy. She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Legal Public Administration – Environmental Law at the University of Groningen.

In her spare time, Janne enjoys exercising, spending time with friends, and savouring a good meal and a nice cup of coffee. "I love good company and meaningful conversations about life and society. I also really enjoy going for a walk or simply reading a good book or watching a series."

Even after more than five years, the province still has plenty to offer her. At the weekends, she likes to go on adventures: cycling to Grou, taking the train to Harlingen to walk along the beach, or popping into the arthouse cinema to watch a documentary.

As part of the Fryslân Innovation Pact, she is working towards the ambition of making Friesland a European leader in the circular economy, in collaboration with public authorities, educational institutions and businesses. The mission? A clean, healthy and happy Friesland. In her work, Janne focuses on themes such as Human Capital, Education, the Circular Economy and the De Uitkijkers programme, through which she contributes to projects that help move Friesland forward.

Working together to promote equal opportunities

"It’s fantastic to work with so many different people and organisations. It gives me a good insight into what’s going on, enabling me to do even more for Friesland and the social challenges we face." Outside of work, she is also one of the founders of the Rainbow Alliance, a movement striving for an inclusive society in Friesland. "I believe in a place where everyone can develop and is given equal opportunities," Janne explains with a smile.

She really enjoyed the move from Tilburg to Friesland. Janne feels at home in the down-to-earth atmosphere of the North. "Friesland feels like home. I enjoy the peace and quiet, the space, and the connection with people. Frisians are caring and treat each other as equals, and that fits in well with my Brabant sense of conviviality. Together we work on wonderful projects such as the Rainbow Alliance and the inclusion policy. Because that bright future we have in mind, we’re building it together. That’s why I really feel at home here."

Pursuing her dreams

Janne’s ambition knows no bounds. “I pursue my goals to work together to make the world a more beautiful, cleaner and safer place, where everyone has the right to be themselves. That is what I want to dedicate myself to in Friesland,” she says. In Friesland, she has found the freedom to pursue her dreams and realise her ideals. The space, tranquillity and sense of community that Friesland offers give her the strength and inspiration to make a difference every single day. Janne Dam embraces this freedom wholeheartedly, determined to contribute to a better future.
