About us Warmtemeterservice B.V. specialises in measuring energy consumption and allocating energy costs. Our core business focuses on heat metering. WMS was founded in 1988 and is a leader in the sector, not in terms of size or turnover, but certainly in terms of expertise, capabilities and drive. Thanks to our commitment to the sector (member of NL.V.V.E. – Dutch Association for Consumption-Based Energy Billing, member of CEN/TC171 – Technical Committee 171 – revision of the European standards EN-834), WMS is even a well-known name in the industry across Europe. We are never afraid to stick our necks out and try something new; this has already led to enormous growth in our remote reading projects, to such an extent that the discovery of a specific antenna is now being used by all Brunata branches and is proving highly successful everywhere.
We offer a range of products that stand out from the rest in one way or another: previously, this included Brunata’s electronic heat cost allocator from the Futura series, featuring patented measurement logic. Nowadays, Brunata’s radio-based system is once again ahead of its time; since 2020, we have been using LoRaWAN networks. The possibilities with LoRa (part of the IoT – Internet of Things) are virtually limitless and are by no means restricted to energy meters.
The BRUNATA Group is one of the larger service providers in the field of meter reading and billing. In total, more than 20 million meters based on Brunata technology have been installed across Europe.
Incidentally, Brunata has been active in the Netherlands since 1926. Two meter reading documents from this period provide proof of this and hang framed on the wall in one of our consultation rooms. At that time, the meter reader would travel specially from Copenhagen to the Netherlands to take the meter readings, and these reading lists were then processed in Denmark to produce a bill.
In addition, we also supply the complete product range from DIEHL Metering in Germany, ensuring we have all the necessary solutions for energy and water supply companies. For our data collection, we use Diehl Metering’s IZAR PLUS Portal, for example, so that we can provide continuous insight into energy consumption on a daily basis.
Our company’s origins date back to the late 1970s, when Otter Leeuwarden B.V. began supplying energy meters; in the early 1980s, it sold the first Brunata heat cost allocators to the Rotterdam Municipal Energy Company (now Eneco) so that homes connected to the district heating network could receive individual bills based on metered consumption. Although this was a temporary solution, it did lead to the establishment of a department that could supply these metering systems to housing associations and owners’ associations. Thus, in 1987, the Heat Meter Service department was established, which was subsequently spun off and later sold.
In 2005, Wim Wiegers and Ylse Wierema took over the company and are still actively involved in the business with great drive and enthusiasm. Both have, incidentally, been active in the company and the sector since 1987 and 1989 respectively. From 1 April 2025, Wim Wiegers will be the sole owner.
