The history of Sparck Technologies (formerly Packaging by Quadient) began in 1924 with the founding of HaDeWe in Drachten. From day one, the focus has been on innovation and developing high-tech solutions that make life easier for other businesses. For example, in the 1920s, we conceived, developed and built the world’s first automatic clog-making machine.

Much has changed since those humble beginnings. The company has grown over time and our technical solutions keep pace with market developments.

For example, in 2014 we took our first steps into the world of automatic packaging machines for online shops. Due to the astronomical increase in online orders, logistics service providers were desperately seeking a solution to package multiple orders every day quickly, efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner.

Innovation has been in our company’s DNA since 1924, and together with our expert engineers, we devised a solution to the problems faced by online retailers. That solution came in the form of smart machines capable of packing customised orders automatically and at lightning speed. Without air and without filling material. With over 300 employees across Europe and the United States, we have made it our mission to make sustainable packaging the standard in e-commerce. Companies worldwide can now benefit from our smart packaging systems by saving on box volume, packaging materials and labour costs.

As is so often the case, the idea for packaging machines began on the drawing board. But a true end-to-end solution only exists when the entire process is right. From start to finish. Sparck Technologies has been part of the Dutch investment company Standard Investment in Amsterdam since 2021. Standard Investment owns 16 companies across four countries, with a total of around 4,500 employees and a turnover of more than €1 billion.
