How can we ensure that Fryslân remains a province where people can live and work well in the future? Planbureau Fryslân is an independent think tank whose mission is to strengthen policy-making and governance in Fryslân. We monitor trends and developments, conduct research into the residents of Fryslân via our own citizens’ panel, and carry out in-depth research. In this way, we bring important issues to the fore and contribute to the debate on the future of Fryslân.
Our main question is: how are the people of Fryslân faring in these changing circumstances?
Our mission is: “to strengthen Fryslân’s policy-making and administrative capacity and to contribute to the public debate on the future of Fryslân”. Planbureau Fryslân aims to contribute to a future-proof Fryslân through independent, reliable and scientifically grounded knowledge. We provide an overview of developments and the living conditions of the people of Fryslân. Key target groups include administrators and elected representatives, policymakers, civil society organisations, businesses and initiative-takers. Our work helps in weighing up options and assessing new (policy) opportunities.
In addition, we focus on the public debate regarding the development of our province. Using figures and independent analysis, we aim to foster a better-informed discussion about our region. Our research takes the perspective of residents as its starting point. What residents in Fryslân experience, think and do is key to this. This concerns quality of life, the extent to which citizens are able to participate in society, and how they experience changes in their living conditions.
