With a population of over 125,000, the municipality of Leeuwarden is the largest municipality and the administrative, economic and cultural hub of Fryslân. The municipality of Leeuwarden stretches from just behind the Wadden Sea dyke north of Stiens, through the historic city centre of Leeuwarden and the water sports area around Grou, to the Alde Feanen National Park.
