Ameland is a small municipality facing major challenges. We want to remain independent, ensure that young people want to live on the island or choose to stay, maintain the facilities for our 3,700 residents and hundreds of thousands of visitors, and work towards a sustainable future. We do this with a team of around 80 people spread across several clusters. The atmosphere within our organisation is informal and lines of communication are short. Our core values are courage, collaboration and integrity.
As an independent and fully-fledged municipality, Ameland works in partnership with the other Wadden Islands and with other municipalities in Friesland.
