From our site in Sneek, we supply our customers within 24 hours using a modern and extensive fleet of vehicles.
Douma Staal is an independent family business founded in 1918 by two brothers, Geert and Sippe Douma, who had previously worked in their father’s cartwright’s workshop. Initially, the company focused on the ironmongery trade. After the Second World War, the decision was made to start selling machinery as well. The company was based on Grootzand in the centre of Sneek. In 1979, the warehouse moved to its current location on the ‘Houkesloot’ industrial estate. The office and the machinery showroom remained in the centre of Sneek.
Since 1989, the office and showroom have also been located on the ‘Houkesloot’ industrial estate. From that point onwards, the name Douma’s IJzerhandel was changed to Douma Staal en Machines. The sale of tools and ball bearings was discontinued entirely, although the machinery remained. In 1995, the decision was taken to focus entirely on the sale of steel and to divest the machinery division. From that point onwards, the name was also changed to Douma Staal BV.
