How Camping Vrijhaven all began
The year was 1987. Jacob and Karin, armed with a good dose of courage and an even larger portion of idealism and naivety, decided to change course. They bought the municipal campsite in Heeg and named it Watersportcamping Heeg, without any experience in the leisure sector. “Oh well,” they thought, “how hard can it be? We’ll put up a few tents, hang up a sign and that’s that!” (Well, it didn’t turn out to be quite that simple…)
But one thing was certain: this campsite would be different. Sustainability, innovation and culture would form the core values of their adventure. And so, even before the first guest arrived, they planted more than 1,001 native trees (yes, you read that right, 1,001!). Dozens of nesting boxes were hung up for the birds and flower borders were laid out, full of flowers that bloom from March to October, so that the insects could also enjoy the party. Truly nature-inclusive camping, then!
The vision
Camping Vrijhaven continues to innovate its products and services in an authentic way, so that it acts as a connecting factor between people and nature, and where its adventurous guests continue to enjoy experiences that they will look back on with fond memories
