Welcome to Franeker’s leading bookshop!
In the centre of Franeker lies De Grote Beer, a bookshop founded by Femke van Seijen. After discovering that Franeker no longer had a bookshop, Femke found a suitable premises on Dijkstraat. With the support of friends, family and residents of Franeker, De Grote Beer opened its doors in September 2025.
The shop offers a varied selection ranging from thrillers, fantasy and children’s books to books in the local dialect and English-language books that are popular on social media. The range of books is complemented by bookmarks, greeting cards, (tear-off) calendars and a wide variety of board and card games.
