Who is BioValue?
BioValue is one of the major players in the Dutch biogas market and specialises in the development, construction and operation of biogas plants. BioValue produces sustainable energy from organic waste products such as animal manure and organic waste at six different sites across the Netherlands. The end products are green electricity, green gas, bio-CNG and bio-LNG. BioValue also produces organic fertilisers and fertiliser substitutes.
How does the process work?
In the biogas plants, manure and organic waste are fermented in large tanks (fermenters) in an oxygen-free environment. Biogas is produced during fermentation. We upgrade the biogas so that it has the same properties as natural gas; we then call it green gas. Green gas is fed into the gas network or converted into bio-CNG or bio-LNG. The residual product after fermentation is called digestate. We treat this so that it can be sold as compost and a liquid fertiliser substitute, thereby avoiding the use of chemical fertilisers and saving fossil natural gas.
