And we do more than just lend out books. We are committed to a society in which everyone can participate. And you can only participate if you can read and write and have digital skills. That is why we provide facilities, courses and drop-in sessions so that all residents can continue to develop. In this way, we’re working towards a society of skilled citizens, both from our branches and in schools, childcare centres, health clinics and many other places.

We do this with just under a hundred staff members. Library staff, reading advisers, customer service staff, managers, subject specialists, marketing staff, a caretaker, management assistants, project support staff and an enthusiastic director. Our staff are professionals. We’re confident in saying that because our customers say so too. Every year, we ask our customers what they think of our staff. And the results are excellent. The staff at Noord-Fryslân even receive the highest ratings in the whole of the Netherlands!

We are, of course, incredibly proud of this. And we work hard to ensure it stays that way. This also means that our organisation is constantly evolving. We see and sense opportunities everywhere and never stand still. That places demands on our staff. Fortunately, our staff survey shows that our staff score exceptionally highly on their willingness to embrace change (8.4) and that they are satisfied (8.2). They are, without exception, enthusiastic and committed staff who uphold the library’s values and are proud of the organisation they work for (8.8).
