Bibliotheken Mar en Fean operates 12 libraries in the municipalities of De Fryske Marren, Heerenveen and Súdwest-Fryslân. There are also numerous school libraries. Around 70 staff members, supported by nearly 200 volunteers, are committed to promoting the library as an inspiring place to visit. We value job satisfaction, focus on collaboration both internally and externally, and are committed to delivering quality. We pay close attention to the long-term employability of our staff.
Internship and graduation project opportunities
We have interesting internship and graduation project opportunities for students on higher vocational education (HBO) and senior secondary vocational education (MBO) courses. Interested students from various disciplines, such as Marketing & Communication, Information Services and Management, Education, Communication & Multimedia Design, Human Resource Management and the BBL Level 4 course in Information and Advice Services, are welcome to contact us to discuss ideas.
On a journey towards connection
Together with local partners in the municipalities within our catchment area, but above all together with our members and visitors, we are taking on the challenge of supporting and increasing the self-reliance of vulnerable groups. Because those who can read and are media-literate can participate in society! As a library, we want to inspire and entice people; we want to be a platform for creating and sharing knowledge and information. And we are a platform where people can develop personally and thereby improve their opportunities in society.
Reading, informing, learning, discovering, meeting, relaxing
We organise a wide range of activities in the literary, cultural and educational fields, sometimes in collaboration with our partners. We offer products and services to the education sector to promote reading, the joy of reading and media literacy. In a contemporary setting, we present a current collection of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and e-books. We provide comfortable workspaces with free Wi-Fi for working or studying. Use of computers is also free of charge. In the reading café, anyone can read a newspaper or magazine whilst enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. For those learning Dutch, there is the Digi-Taalhuis, with practice programmes at every level. Those who are unable to visit the library in person can make use of ‘Bibliotheek aan Huis’. The library catalogue is available day and night via the website, allowing you to search for, reserve or renew items. Our expert staff are friendly and helpful and take a proactive approach. The library is freely accessible and welcoming, even if you are not a member.
