There is no province in the Netherlands where biscuits are as important as in Friesland. Molkwarder Koeke symbolises the story of how Friesland became the biscuit province of our country. Where, for over a hundred years, the streets of the Frisian village of Molkwerum were filled with the delicious aroma of freshly baked biscuits.
In 1916, Cornelis de Boer, a farmer’s son, took over his aunt’s old bakery here. There, with boundless passion, he tweaked the recipe until he felt perfection had been achieved. This is how Cornelis managed to produce, on a small scale, a range of traditional biscuits of consistent quality. A taste that, to this day, transports you back in your memories to days gone by. Those moments at ‘pake en beppe’ (grandad & granny)’s kitchen table, with a cup of tea and a delicious slice of proper biscuit. So recognisable that Molkwarder Koeke has now become part of the DNA of practically every proud Frisian.
