Afûk

At Afûk, everything revolves around language, the Frisian language in particular. For almost 100 years (we’ll be celebrating our centenary in 2028!), the Frisian language and culture have been our raison d’être, and the diversity of our activities has only grown over the years. We have a shop and a publishing house, organise Frisian language courses and develop teaching methods for Frisian in schools (from toddlers to professionals), but we also work daily on many different projects and campaigns to promote the Frisian language and encourage its use, across all sectors and for all target groups!

Frisian is a living language. Today, around half a million people use the language every day, both within and outside the province of Fryslân. All these people use Frisian as their mother tongue, because for them it is the language of the heart. In 2028, Afûk will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Working at Afûk

Afûk is an active, enterprising organisation whose aim is to give the Frisian language a rightful place throughout our Frisian society. Around 35 people work at Afûk.
